It’s no secret that state educators are worried about what will happen to public education when lawmakers try to fill a $3.7 billion budget hole.

About 40 percent of the state budget is spent on K-12 education.

As a non-cabinet agency (meaning it’s not run by a governor’s appointee) the state Department of Public Instruction is freer to rally public support for its causes.

DPI has posted new web pages where the public can find K-12 budget info.

It’s decorated with the “Fund Schools First” slogan that public education backers used during last year’s budget debates.
